Junior Band Report
Juniors program strong but not growing quickly.
The juniors rehearse regularly on Wednesday evenings. Players are progressing nicely. With most players receiving both a weekly one on one lesson and band rehearsal.
The program now has a number of representatives in the state youth band with that number likely to grow. Over the year the group performed locally such as movies in the park and in the Coburg mall area for the Coburg traders. It has also produced a short movie to act as backing to some new music purchased.
While the team has a number of new members these numbers have just over taken those who have left the program over time. Steps have been taken to increase growth through the creation of flyers for distribution within the local schools. However at this time we have not seen any new members from these efforts.
The new rehearsal approach was rolled out. Rehearsals now regularly include a section where musical notation, aural training and other more technical music related issues are presented and discussed. Also musical games are included at the end of many rehearsals to allow members fun increasing useful mental and aural skills.
In summary, while the current lack of strong growth is disappointing it is hoped that in the coming year this will turn around and the junior program will go on to increase it’s reach into the community both in terms of teaching and mentoring new players but also performing for local audiences.
